Develop, modify, and implement recreational and leisure activity plans to enhance, retain, increase resident’s independence, health, and welfare. Maintain appropriate and required documentation on progress.
Assure assigned residents are notified of activities and given opportunity to participate. Maintain open communication with families and caregivers with regard to resident/client progress and requirements. Provide instructions as needed. Coordinate/schedule events and activities. Develop calendar, coordinate staff, procure supplies & equipment, create advertising collateral. Assess resident/client needs and design/modify therapeutic recreation programs to maximize potential improvement or sustain capabilities.
Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Therapy, or related field, from an accredited college or university. 1-2 years experience in a long-term or acute setting. Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist a plus. Familiarity with DOH/DSS healthcare regulations, Demonstrated effectiveness in a team setting. Proven assessment skills, strong written communication skills, demonstrated experience in recreation therapy program design, and customer service focus (families, caregivers, residents, staff).
