The Nurse Practitioner/PA-Mental Health is a certified Advanced Care Provider with skills and education in the specialty of geriatric, adult or family mental health/psychiatric medicine. He/she provides comprehensive psychiatric care to residents. The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for acute, episodic and chronic psychiatric management, which often includes but is not limited to the prescribing of medications and therapeutics, the ordering of diagnostics and interpreting results and making referrals outside the program when appropriate.


  • Provides ongoing psychiatric and mental health care in collaboration with a designated primary provider.
  • Diagnoses symptoms, develops a treatment plan for residents and prescribes medications.
  • Demonstrates competence in the management of mental health issues and geriatric principles or syndromes.
  • Diagnoses symptoms, develops a treatment plan for residents and prescribes medications.
  • Manages acute/emergency/chronic situations, as well as psychosocial needs specific to the area of geriatric mental health.


  • Current NYS license as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current certification as a PA or NP in NYS and an advanced nursing degree.
  • National certification as an ANP or GNP, PMHNP or PMHNP-BC
  • Advanced Practice degree in mental health preferred, or its direct equivalent.
  • Current DEA number.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in clinical nursing.
  • Current knowledge of best practice nursing standards, patient assessment and care planning.

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients, clients, residents, and families from diverse backgrounds who may have physical, sensory and mental impairments.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a busy environment.
  • Proficient in MS Office and able to learn new software rapidly.
