Overview

 Perform various duties related to providing certain resident care activities and non-professional services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of residents being cared for in the institution. Work under the immediate supervision of the nursing staff, and from detailed instructions and prescribed or established routines.

Responsibilities

Meet with team leaders or members of nursing staff, and receive daily reports and assignments. Answer signal lights and bells; make routine rounds to determine resident needs and perform such duties as; take urine samples, take and record temperatures, pulse, respiration rates and food intake and output; give and/or assist residents with bed or tub baths, and showers; assist with oral hygiene and special mouth care; comb and shampoo hair, cut and file nails, shave residents, etc.

 

Assist in changing resident’s positions or in getting in or out of bed, or chair, or moving about or changing position of bed by physically lifting, turning and moving residents, use various mechanical devices, as necessary, such as lifting slings, Hoyer lift, Transaid lift; insure that protective devices are secure for safety of residents.

 

Assist in certain therapeutic treatments such as apply heat and cold compresses, back rubs, simple body message; provide and remove bed pans, urinals, and administer enemas; transport residents to and from various treatment center areas of the building.

 

Drape residents for examinations and treatments, and assist examining staff to hold instruments, adjust lights, operate or manipulate controls of equipment pertinent to an examination or treatment.

 

Assist residents at meal times, and feed residents as necessary, keep water pitcher filled, change bed linens, tidy resident’s room, run errands, direct visitors.

 

Follow all policies and procedures of the facility.

 

Adhere to the philosophy of the facility.

 

Maintain clean and acceptable general environment.

 

Report unusual conditions to others.

 

Perform other similar or related duties.

Qualifications

Requires ability to read, write and understand instructions. Must have passed the NYS Department of Health Residential Health Care Facility Nurse Aide Certification Program and be on the current NYS RHCF Aide Registry

 

OR

 

must have completed an approved NYS training program, have already taken the NYS Clinical Exam and be waiting to take the NYS Written Exam; this must all be completed and certification presented to the facility within four (4) months from date of hire

 

OR

 

must be certified as a nurse aide by another state provided the facility verifies that the individual is listed in the other states registry and has applied to the Department of Health for New YorkState certification.
